Quick guide: Creating markets
You turn a question your audience cares about into a market. Every time it trades, your share of what the market keeps grows. Creating a market on Ultramint is called minting.
1. Open the Mint page
Anyone signed in can mint. Open Mint a market to start.
2. Pick a market type
| Type | Resolved by | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Crypto | Fermah Kernel | CoinMarketCap |
| Sports | Fermah Kernel | API-Sports (football, full-time result) |
| Esports | Fermah Kernel | Cito (League of Legends series) |
| AI market | Fermah Kernel's AI judges | Ultramint's fixed news and data feeds |
| Members only, in a Town | You | The rule you write |
On an AI market you don't name a source. The Kernel checks at mint time that its feeds can answer your question, and refuses the draft if they can't. If no qualifying news shows up by the deadline, the market resolves NO.
3. Write a question that resolves
Describe your idea in plain words. The drafting assistant proposes the outcomes and the resolution rule. Your job is to make sure the source can give one clear answer.
| Hard to resolve | Easy to resolve |
|---|---|
| Will SOL have a good month? | Will SOL close above $300 on 30 November 2026? |
| Will the transfer happen? | Will Club A announce the signing of Player B on or before 1 February 2027? |
A good rule has three parts: a source, a deadline, and what happens if nothing happens. If you can't write all three, the question isn't ready.
4. Pass the review
Every draft gets an automatic review. It checks that the question can resolve and that it's allowed. If it fails, you see why. Edit and run it again.
A passed review lasts 10 minutes. Mint within that window.
Some questions are never allowed: anything about death, injury or harm, anything impossible or unverifiable, and anything that needs private information to resolve. The full list is in the Acceptable Use and Prohibited Markets Policy.
5. Fund the opening and mint
Before you confirm, you see every cost:
- The seed. This is the market's opening liquidity. A bigger seed means each Buy moves the price less. The seed comes back to you after winners are paid. It is at risk: if most of the money lands on the winning side, the seed covers the gap and you can lose part or all of it.
- The resolution prepayment. A small base fee plus a charge for how long the market runs, on markets Fermah Kernel resolves. The unused part comes back at resolution. Members only markets don't pay it.
- Yield (optional). You can place the market's money in an Euler V2 vault. It's off by default.
The amounts are on Fees in plain words. Someone else can fund your seed and prepayment. See seed funders.
Minting is final. The question, outcomes, rule and fee terms are locked once you mint. Read every word first.
6. What you earn
When the market resolves, winners are paid and your seed is refunded. Your creator pool then gets a share of the settlement fees from winning payouts, and a share of the rest of what the market kept, including the spread buyers paid. The exact split varies with current promotions. See Current promotions.
Your earnings depend on what the market keeps, which grows with trading and a balanced book. Try the Creator payout simulator to see how it works on an example market.
You're paid when the market's money is swept after resolution. There is no minimum. Track each market on the Created tab of your portfolio.
You also earn Mint Points when other people buy in your markets.
7. Get it traded
Share your market. Anyone can also promote it with their own promoter link, without asking you. Market Promoters are paid from your creator pool, in proportion to the volume they bring, up to a cap fixed when you mint. With no promoters, the whole pool is yours.
Your own Buys count toward volume. You can't promote them.
8. After it goes live
- Public market: Fermah Kernel resolves it. You have nothing more to do.
- Members only market: you resolve it, in good faith, by the rule you wrote, and soon after it closes. See the Town owner guide.
Checklist before you mint
- The source can give one clear answer.
- The outcomes cover every real result.
- You're happy with the seed and accept it's at risk.
