Quick guide: Running a Town
A Town is your community's home on Ultramint. It has its own members and its own markets. You can post Public markets that anyone can find and trade, and Members only markets for your people.
1. Start a Town
Go to Towns and start a new one. Any signed-in, eligible account can do it, with no approval. You can own up to 20 Towns.
2. Choose who gets in
- Open: anyone can join.
- Invite / apply: people join with your invite link, or apply and wait for approval.
You and your admins approve applications, send invites, and remove or ban members. You can make a member an admin from the Town settings. Removing someone stops them buying in your Members only markets. Positions they already hold stay theirs.
3. Pick Public or Members only
| Public | Members only | |
|---|---|---|
| Who can find and buy | Anyone | Your members |
| Who resolves it | Fermah Kernel | The person who minted it |
| Can the result be challenged | Yes, during the challenge window | No |
| Resolution prepayment | Yes | No |
Members only hides a market from people outside your Town. The market itself is still on-chain, so its existence, Buys and result are public there. Don't put anything in one that would cause harm if it became public.
4. Mint a Members only market
Open your Town, choose Create market and pick Members only. The steps are the same as any market. See the Creator guide.
In a private Town you can also mint a Custom Source market and name your own source. Buyers see a warning that a source you control could be used to fake the result.
5. Resolve it on time
If you minted a Members only market, you resolve it:
- Report the result in good faith, strictly by the rule you wrote.
- Report soon after it closes. The deadline is in the Market Rules. Ultramint sends you reminders and an overdue notice, but can't report for you.
- Only you can report the result, void the market or stop trading. Ultramint can't change, void or pause it.
- You can hold a position in a market you resolve. It's shown to buyers.
Your members are trusting your word with their money. Write rules that leave no room for argument.
6. Rewards and earnings
- Your members earn Mint Points on Town markets, Members only included.
- Buys in Members only markets don't count toward Seasons.
- As a creator, you earn from your markets the same way as on any market. See What creators earn.
- Towns are ranked Seed, Growth and Prime by their last 30 days of volume. Tiers are for recognition and carry no revenue share.
- Partner Towns can share the platform's part of each market's take. Rates are agreed case by case and don't come out of creators' earnings. See Fees in plain words.
