Public and Members only markets
When you mint in a Town, you choose who can buy: everyone, or only your members.
At a glance
| Public | Members only | |
|---|---|---|
| Who can find and buy | Anyone | Your Town's members |
| Who resolves it | Fermah Kernel | The person who minted it |
| Challenge window | Yes | No |
| Resolution fee | Yes | No |
| Counts toward Seasons | Can count | No |
| Earns Mint Points | Yes | Yes |
Prices, Buys, the settlement fee, claims and optional yield work the same on both.
Members only is a visibility setting
People outside your Town can't find or open a Members only market on Ultramint. It's also left out of search engines.
The market itself is still an on-chain contract. Anyone looking at Base can see that it exists, its Buys and its result. Don't put a question in a Members only market if it would cause harm when it becomes public.
Who resolves a Members only market
The person who minted it, always.
- Their report resolves the market directly. There's no challenge window and no appeal.
- Only they can report the result, void the market or stop trading on it.
- Ultramint can't change the result, void it, pause it or stop it.
- They can hold a position in a market they resolve. Buyers can see that.
The creator should report soon after the market closes. The deadline is in the Market Rules. Ultramint sends reminders and an overdue notice, and can't report for them.
If you mint one
You take on the duties in the Market Creator Agreement:
- Resolve in good faith.
- Resolve strictly by the rule you wrote.
- Resolve on time.
Your members are trusting your word with their money. Write rules that leave no room for argument.
If you buy in one
- Read the rule, not just the title. A question written in shorthand between friends is the kind that turns on a technicality later.
- Know who the creator is. If you wouldn't take their word for the result in conversation, don't take it for money.
- Read the Creator-resolved Markets: Buyer Disclaimer. It explains how little recourse you have.
